Another cold day in Urumqi and our last chance to see a bit more of the city. Luckily we got offered a tour by our new friend Umet. We met up and started our excursion with his English school where we got to see some Kazakh singing and dancing performances by some students followed by some awesome Kazakh food and camels milk. After that we toured through the city checking out the bazaar and the Hongshan Mountain park. We finished the day with a maaaasive plate of spicy chicken and some beer for me.
I ordered the local double filtered Xinjiang Yanying lager. The beer came in a super flashy holographic sparkling bottle. The first look was not too promising. It was light yellow, very clear and not really fizzy. It basically looked like apfelschorle, apple juice mixed with sparkling water. A look at the back of the beer confirmed my fears. The beer only has 3.3% alcohol. Another Chinese light beer for me. It smelled slightly sweet with a hoppy note. The taste was similar. It was really watery and a bit sweet with only a tiny bit of hops taste in it. A weak beer with not much taste to it. (But great for washing down spicy chicken!!)
