After we had a sleepless bus ride and arrived at 4am in Dumai to take the ferry, we had some time to kill. So why not have a breakfast beer? The mainly Muslim city on the east coast of Indonesia didn’t have much of a selection and I had to ask at shops if they sell booze (after all it was 8:30 in the morning). Finally one of the store clerks took me to the storage room in the back of his shop and showed me his stash. I picked a small can of Anker Pilsner.
The 4.9 percent beer had a clear golden body a medium head. It had a pretty typical pilsner smell to it, hoppy with a bitter aroma. The taste was not as bad as I expected, considering that it was early in the morning and super hot. It was tart with a hint of sourness to it. In total it was a good decision to get a beer but a Bintang or Tiger would have been the better choice.
