365 Drinks: #282 Hyakurakumon Special Junmai Sae sake (Japan)

Hyakurakumon Special Junmai Sae sake
Hyakurakumon Special Junmai Sae sake

Extra dry and, at ¥900 ($7.30) a glass, extra expensive

After visiting the deer park in Nara we decided to stroll around the actual city and see what is around. It was rather small compared to Osaka so we decided to hit up a sake bar that we spotted on our way to the train station. The bar was well equipped and the lady behind the counter was happy to explain about sake while she poured me a glass of Hyakurakumon Special Junmai Sae sake. The clear-bodied sake had a very mild sour smell and 16-17 percent alcohol content. It tasted a bit sweet at the beginning followed by a slightly sour note and a mild finish. Quite a nice sake and easy to drink. Later on we found out the price and it wasn’t cheap at all; I think I wouldn’t have gotten it if I would have known how much it was.

(Lesson learned, don’t let someone try to up-sell you sake!!)
