My second drink of the day is an Echigo Hochihikari rice beer that I found in a convenience store. The only rice “beer” I found before was in Thailand and it wasn’t great so I wasn’t really expecting much. The 5 percent “beer” came in a tall can and was rather cheap. It had a clear golden body with not much of a head and smelled like mushrooms. The taste was a mix between sake and a mushroom soup, but refreshingly fizzy and easy to drink. Quite an unusual flavor combination that was surprisingly good.
