We got invited to a wine bottling party for today. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but when we arrived there was a basement full of ladies, snacks on the counter and wine bottles floating around everywhere. We were told to “drink as much as you want as long as you help with the bottling”. A good deal. So I took over the corking together with a bottle of Portuguese Douro Tinto made by Karen in 2010. This homemade wine was produced using Douro Tinto grape juice and yeast to let it ferment and do it’s thing. The wine had a dark red body with a fruity aroma that wasn’t too heavy. It probably had a alcohol content of around 12 percent. The taste was heavy but fruity with a sour note to it that made it almost a bit jam-like. It reminded me a bit of some of the wines we had in China and Myanmar. You can tell that it wasn’t a professionally made wine but still good to drink and made me want more.
