Thanks, or no thanks, to the former Soviet Union, Hungary has loads of derelict sites. Towns, army bases, industrial sites–you name it. People sometimes equate Berlin with Detroit but no, if you want to find the European version of Detroit as far as ruin goes, look no further than Hungary.
They’ve got so much abandoned shit that no one even seems to really care about it. We went scouting for this abandoned airforce base outside of Veszprém with the usual caution, driving around looking for back roads, keeping our eyes out for security guards or cops. But when we finally found and rocked up to this site, we found shitloads of HGVs rumbling through it like it was a motorway. Based on our expert research (Google Maps satellite data, wahoo), it seems like some shipping or industry company has taken up shop in the southern corner of the site and just use the old roads through the ruins to get back to the main road. So aside from the massive trucks, we were safe.

VW, woot woot

Guess the Soviets liked oriental carpets?!
